Katherine Clark began her career managing a mainframe network at Blue Cross/Blue Shield and developing software to improve its performance. She and a colleague then negotiated a deal for intellectual property rights to the software, and Ms. Clark founded Landmark Systems Corporation in 1983, officially launching The Monitor for CICS. The Monitor (TMON) quickly became the industry standard, garnering huge profits for Landmark and allowing the company to enjoy steady growth in international and domestic markets. Ms. Clark managed every aspect of the company’s operations, from product development, domestic and international sales to customer service, marketing, and finance. In 1994 she took over as CEO, guiding Landmark through an initial public offering in 1997 and negotiating the company’s sale to ASG Software Solutions, an enterprise software provider, in 2002. At the time of the sale, Landmark’s annual revenues were $60 million and its staff numbered 330.
In 2009, Ms. Clark became Chief Executive Officer of Smartthinking, an online tutoring service for college and university students. She retired after the sale of the company in 2011.
Ms. Clark joined Nathan Associates’ board in 2008. She is also on the Board of Directors of the Northern Virginia Technology Council and WLR Foods Inc.
