As resident adviser in Myanmar under the ACTI Project, Steve Parker will be assisting the government in implementing its Framework for Economic and Social Reform. Previously, he was Chief of Party for the LUNA-Lao project (Laos-United States International and ASEAN Integration) in Ventiane. In February 2013, Mr. Parker discussed the signficance of the project with the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
Earlier, Mr. Parker was a senior trade economist working on such projects as USAID’s STAR-Vietnam Project in Hanoi, where he supported Vietnam’s implementation of the U.S.-Vietnam trade agreement and its accession to the WTO. He has worked as a senior research fellow at the Asian Development Bank Institute in Tokyo, chief economist for The Asia Foundation in San Francisco, trade and macroeconomist for USAID’s mission in Jakarta and as resident trade advisor for the Harvard Institute for International Development, also in Jakarta. Mr. Parker was the lead trade and development economist for the U.S. Congressional Budget Office and he began his career as an international economist at the U.S. Department of Labor.
