Underscoring its commitment to APEC’s goal of regional integration, the U.S. Government launched the APEC Technical Assistance and Training Facility (TATF) in October 2008. Managed by Nathan Associates, the TATF

  • Supports APEC and the APEC Secretariat in furthering regional economic integration,
  • Promotes the Bogor Goals of free and open trade, and
  • Helps APEC become a more strategically managed regional institution.

Housed in the APEC Secretariat in Singapore, TATF delivers assistance in a variety of forms, ranging from policy studies and assessments to capacity building, training, and expert advice on integration, trade liberalization, and institutional management.

The TATF, for example, has worked to improve the Secretariat’s internal structures and processes as well as its information technology systems, improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Project Management Unit in supporting APEC member economies, and improve communications between the Secretariat and member economies.

TATF also provided training and other assistance to member economies and the Secretariat in relation to APEC’s Three Pillars: trade and investment liberalization, business facilitation, and economic and technical cooperation. Project activities involved cross-border services trade, corporate governance, public consultation in the rule-making process, and micro-credit for women entrepreneurs.

APEC TATF was primarily funded by the U.S. Department of State, with additional funding and management oversight provided by USAID.
