Many artists depend on royalties for their livelihood. The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers relies on Nathan Associates to keep track of music use by ASCAP’s licensees. As the independent statistical and economic consultant for ASCAP since 1974, we design surveys of music use, continually monitoring, auditing, and updating the surveys.

Especially challenging in the last decade is the design of surveys of new performance media ranging from pay-for-view and basic cable TV to the Internet. The surveys we design are used to fairly distribute license fees to songwriters and music publishers owners of intellectual property throughout the United States and abroad.

Our work is subject to review by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and the U.S. Department of Justice.
