Development of a Customer Information System, 2009-2010

For BASIX, a microfinance institution in India, Nathan India developed a customer information system that identifies potential customers and evaluates their specific needs. We first conducted a survey of 4,300 households across four states, gathering information on assets, occupations and other demographic details, income, consumption, and use of financial instruments such as loans, bank accounts, and insurance policies. We then developed the customer information system on the basis of the survey data and national census data. This system gives BASIX a better understanding of the type of customer it attracts and guides strategic business development decisions.
