Village Scorecard for Microfinance Services, 2009-2010

For BASIX, a microfinance institution in India, Nathan India developed a tool that “scores” and ranks villages on their potential to make use of services and products that are, or could be, provided by a micro-finance institution (e.g., micro-credit, micro-insurance, micro-pensions, livelihood advisory services). Nathan India surveyed 15 villages across 4 states, gathering household level data on economic status, assets, family size, marital status, age, gender, caste, education, and occupation. We then created the village scorecard using data gathered through the survey as well as data from the national census. The scorecard allows BASIX to make fact-based decisions about expanding services.
